I am the least supporter of GB but, once again, the press/media prove that they rule the World. There was no insult intended in this customary action by a UK PM but such letters, however well intentioned, need to be very carefully done - a poor decision yet again. A dictated, signed, typewritten letter with written 'Dear xxx' was the route if he seriously cannot see enough to write and spell.
Afghanistan 'Extents'
To an extent, I think I agreed with the operation in Afghanistan. There was every reason to believe that the bulk of Afghans wanted to be rid of the Taliban who treated their people like dirt. Thus, one expected the population to really try to learn from the Brits and Americans and, in due course, to be able to take over and protect themselves, govern themselves and become the proud country they once were. To allow this they needed outside help.
However, given the last year and the atrocious incident this week with five more soldiers lost in the most foul of cowardly attacks, my 'to an extent' no longer extends to placing our soldiers in such a dangerous position where they cannot even trust the people they are so honestly and overtly trying to help. It is just not on!
So, I am sorry to say, I am now for a pull out. Let them get on with it. Forget the arguments of stopping terrorism at the root, it will continue anyway thanks to the problems that Pakistan has. We should pull out as soon as feasible and let it be known that we will defend our country to the highest and toughest level ever here in the UK and by any other means possible beyond entering other countries from now on. Enough is enough and I think we cannot risk our soldiers lives any longer in such an unfair environment.
